I was recently turned on to the new Firefly Sweet Tea Bourbon, which around here (in the Commonwealth of Kentucky), anything Bourbon is a good thing. I’ve mentioned in the past that me and bourbon go way back, and our relationship has been stormy at best. Yet over the past 6 months, I’ve helped our stores choose their very own bottling of both Buffalo Trace and Four Roses Single Barrel, which has rekindled my love affair with this Kentucky distillate.
Enter Firefly Sweet Tea Bourbon, the newest Sweet Tea-meets-hard liquor, bringing together Buffalo Trace Bourbon, South Carolina Sweet Tea and Louisiana sugar cane. Gotta be a triple crown of spirits for me – a little home state, something from one of my favorite places on earth, and from my favorite football team’s home state – just some of this on ice and it’s really all I need for a great summer evening.
If you add a bit of water to it, the heat from the bourbon is unnoticeable, but I’d rather take it as it is. The sweet tea is prominent, alongside some caramel, orange peel, molasses and marmalade notes. This is the perfect drink for someone who doesn’t want a really complicated cocktail after hours; just pour over ice and you’re set.
Certainly you can use this as a mixer, and you can find drink recipes at https://www.fireflyvodka.com/.
