I am not a big fan of writing product reviews. I would never cut it in advertising because I tend to become emotionally connected to the things I WANT to sell, or ENJOY to sell. If there is no connection, I can’t sell it. Strangely enough, I was contacted by the folks at Air & Water to write a review of their compact 12-bottle countertop wine cooler, the NewAir AW-121E. Impulsively, I said, “sure” and they sent me one of the units over to use and review. Seems easy enough.
Then came to actually writing the thing.
For starters, I plopped it on top of my desk in my office, and had to do some kooky maneuvering to get it plugged in. This was no fault of the unit – the wiring in my office is something of an afterthought – yet once it was juiced up, it cooled down to 55 degrees within minutes, and has been keeping a few of my wine samples, as well as some of my “roadies” at perfect temp for the past week and half since I received the unit.
The NewAir AW-121E is a 12-bottle capacity wine cooler that is compact enough to fit on a kitchen counter, or beneath a kitchen table (if you are debauched enough, it’s great for a dorm room). It has a stainless steel door and its construction gives it the appearance of being pricier than its price tag (the Air & Water Website has it listed for $159.95). The shelves inside are actually drawers, making it easy to pull out your bottles, and its LED light gives you a hand whenever you need to pull out a bottle in the dark (SURPRISE!) without heating up their contents.
The great thing about this cooler is the fact that there is no compressor, so you don’t have to worry about it failing. Compressor failure dooms just about every other wine cooler out there. Fortunately this cooler utilizes thermoelectric cooling technology, with makes the price tag even more attractive; this cooler should last you for some time to come.
Its digital temperature control on the outside of the unit allows you the flexibility to store whites cooler and reds warmer, or however you wish to run it.
Overall, the NewAir 121E would make for a great gift for any wine enthusiast.
