NEW WINES FROM DOWN THE STREET (INCHING CLOSER TO THE OLD “RHINE VALLEY OF AMERICA”)

I recently tried three new wines from Alexandria, KY’s Generation Hill Winery, courtesy of owner Bill Buda sending them to me through our local wine distributor Walter Wines. One white wine (a Chardonel), a red (Chambourcin) and the obligatory Concord:

Generation Hill Chardonnel Kentucky NV. Grade=Average. A decent white wine with a dry display of blanched almonds, apples, pears and wet stone. Nice amount of acidity. Finishes dry, which surprised the heck out of me.

Generation Hill Chambourcin Kentucky NV. Grade=Outstanding. One of the better examples of Chambourcin out there, a bit less rustic than most, with some creamy red and blue fruit aromas, a bit of blueberry pie on the palate, with a smoky smooth finish.

Generation Hill Mr. Grape Jeans Concord Kentucky NV. Grade=Average. Concord – the grape used in Welch’s and other grape juices, so, BAM! It takes like Welch’s. Sweet, fruity, and nice.
