Brother Lou dropped in with a revisiting of a brand we used to sell a lot of, but in the past couple of years, has all but faded from the shelves ‘round here: Red Truck.
Pink Truck Rosé California 2009. Grade=Average. More of a White Zin style blush with sweet strawberry and raspberry notes.
White Truck Pinot Grigio California 2009. Grade=Above Average. A decent PG with lemon/lime notes and nice acidity.
White Truck Sauvignon Blanc California 2009. Grade=Outstanding. A really good value SB with Meyer lemon, grapefruit and cilantro notes.
White Truck Chardonnay Unoaked Central Coast 2008. Grade=Above Average. Good for the money, but in an ocean of Chardonnay out there at this price point, it gets lost pretty easily. Stone fruits, a bit of peach and some minerals.
Red Truck Pinot Noir California 2009. Grade=Outstanding. Surprisingly good PN, varietally correct, with splashy cherry and plum notes.
Red Truck Red California 2009. Grade=CORKED!
Red Truck Merlot Central Coast 2008. Grade=Above Average. Like the Unoaked Chard, this is a good Merlot but indistinguishable from the multitudes of other under-$10 Merlots out there. Good fruit, nice finish.
Red Truck Cabernet Sauvignon California 2009. Grade=Outstanding. A solid effort. Good tannin structure, blackberry and plum notes, a hint of mocha spice and a solid finish.
White Truck Moscato California 2010. Grade=Outstanding. Reluctantly I “score” this Outstanding simply because if I taste another Moscato I will resurrect Jack Kevorkian from the dead just to help me kill myself. Nice orange blossom nose, white peaches and apricots on the palate. Solid effort, but Goddamn! I am sick of Moscato.
